ADHD

Patient Testimonial: ADHD, PTSD, Stress, Anxiety, Binge Drinking and Infertility

“From a young age, I now realise binge drinking was used to relieve mental health symptoms, to destress or to fill bouts of boredom. Binge drinking in conjunction with ADHD symptoms including poor concentration, anxiety, overthinking, stress, self-doubt and impulsivity lead me to try different therapies and medications but to no avail. I decided to come off all medications and increase meditation and yoga practice. However, the symptoms and binge drinking were still ingrained. Jonny’s openness and professionalism from the initial discovery call confirmed that this was the direction I wanted to go in.

I had also been trying to conceive for nearly 2 years with tests showing no physical issues with myself or my partner. Jonny explained that my body likely knew that I wasn’t ready to conceive. He also advised that herbs have the potential to make us very fertile, and I should consider using contraception until the program was finished for my physical and mental health to be in the best condition for conceiving. I fully agreed.

At the beginning of the program, we discussed my childhood and potential traumas that could have led to the negative patterns of behavior and thinking. I was then started on a herbal tincture tailored to my symptoms. After just 2 weeks I could start to feel the difference. I felt more energetic, and less stressed. The tincture in conjunction with the therapy sessions allowed me to think clearer, recognise and rationalise negative thought patterns, leading to an overall increase of self-confidence and a decrease in anxiety and stress.

I was also trying to limit my drinking to once a month instead of drinking every time I was bored or stressed, etc.. I think I relapsed twice, although each time led to significant moments of reflection, recognising impulsive pattens of behavior. Gradually without really realising, I was drinking much less than what I would normally drink to the point I didn’t want to get “drunk”. That was a massive turn of events! I naturally wanted to find new ways of enjoying days off instead of just going to the pub.

Jonny has been amazing throughout this process. His open, honest and genuine approach to coaching made me feel instantly at ease. His passion and endless knowledge for the body, mind and herbs is second to none. This program has been an investment for my future wellbeing. I can’t thank Jonny enough and will continue to work with him whenever I feel I need any support.

Oh yeah, and I am pregnant! Xxxx”

This patient completed my 3 month Pattern Transformation package.

At the start of treatment this patient filled in my symptom questionnaire sheet. This asks patient’s to score their symptoms from 0-10 in terms of how debilitating they feel.

The patient scored 120 at the start of the program. Dropping to 33 at the end of the program. A decrease of 72.5%.

This patient’s binge drinking was difficult to control. ADHD, PTSD and ongoing problems with anxiety and mood were all probably impacting this patient’s ability to conceive, even though NHS testing showed no fertility issues. We went through a full case history that focused on childhood experiences and situations that involve patterns of excess drinking. A tailor made herbal prescription along with the coaching calls helped calm the patient, improve mood, stop drinking, increase energy and cognitive processes. Decision making and behavioural changes then became easier to implement. After a few months of treatment the patient conceived and is currently being supported through pregnancy with herbal treatment.

Patient Testimonial: ADHD and Stress

“Jonny was such a blessing at the time I worked with him. He was attentive, passionate and incredibly informative when explaining to me how the different herbs worked and how they would affect the functioning of various bodily systems. I took a concoction to soothe my nervous system and help me with my sleep. Over the course of my treatment I did notice a vast improvement in my symptoms of ADHD which basically helped manage my anxiety. Throughout the whole process Jonny was reliable and very forthcoming. He provided a very good service and I have always spoken highly of him whenever I mention to people how herbs formed an integral part of my healing jorney. He really believed in me and that is what meant so much. Many thanks for the kindness and support!"

William (UK)

William was suffering with the cognitive effects of ADHD whilst also battling with the physical and psychological symptoms associated with anxiety. We identified there was a link between the two that was being fuelled by a sensitive stress response. Using herbs, supplements, coaching and lifestyles changes, William managed to find a more balanced approach to life, calming his stress response and reducing the symptoms of ADHD.

Ginkgo biloba

Sitting on a shelf in my kitchen is probably one of oldest single living species of plants we know. The specimen i have is only a couple of years old, but a recent report has dated Ginkgo biloba as having been on this earth relatively unchanged for over 270 million years (Isah, 2015).

In Japan it is planted in temples for its association with Confucianism. In Korea the tree is cultivated for its beauty and its edible, medicinal nuts.

In herbal medicine It is most often recognised for its popular use in slowing the effects of ageing and is currently being reported as providing benefit to patients with dementia (Weinmann et al 2010).

My baby Ginkgo

My baby Ginkgo

Its main actions are:

·         Circulatory stimulant

·         Nootropic

·         Peripheral vasodilator

·         Neuroprotective

·         Antioxidant

·         Anti-PAF activity

Ginkgo biloba has such a reputation for brain ailments due to research showing how it can positively alter brain chemistry whilst offering neuroprotective effects against ischaemic damage (Raghavan and Shah, 2014). The herbs actions focus on improving cerebral blood flow whilst increasing antioxidant enzymes and protecting damaged neurons (Hu et al 2003). This action on cerebral blood flow is seen in its ability to inhibit vasospasm and thrombus formation whilst improving circulation to underperfused areas without moving attention away from other areas of the brain (Mills and Bone, 2013, 599). Improving blood flow to underperfused areas could explain why Ginkgo biloba is such a popular treatment in brain related conditions like ADHD.

I stock Ginkgo biloba and often use it for ADHD, memory loss, circulatory issues and erectile dysfunction.

It is not native to the UK but i have seen plenty growing in botanical gardens or even a friend's home. In the West we use the leaf for its medicinal actions. It is unsurprisingly a very hardy plant and can thrive in many different soils and conditions. But what would you expect from something that lived with and beyond the dinosaurs?
